Climbing Mount Elbrus in Russia should be a breeze. Well, through the South route anyway. North of manchester route with this mountain is an entirely different challenge. An appropriate mountaineering experience unlike say Kilmanjaro. Climbing Elbrus involves a large amount of preparation from your physical, mental and logistical viewpoint.
Apparently approaching Russia might take some time. So you'll intend to make another intend to improvise. the best way of transportation being what modern man calls the aeroplane. Upon arrival from the awesome town of Moscow the fun and games begin. The very first challenge is finding a taxi. Once you have done that, the job of explaining your destination and negotiating an amount is next on your own list. No easy task when nobody speaks English. The drive-thru to central Moscow takes about 1.5 hours. Manchester international is all about 50km beyond central Moscow and the traffic is a nightmare. Upon arrival from the hotel, its an instant vodka, shower and... time for it to hit the streets of Moscow. And make an attempt to hit them also hard since you may appear the second best. There are some pretty cool restaurants what your location is faced with another challenge. You will end up necessary to negotiate on your path around a menu in Russian and waiter who, you got it right, only speaks Russian. What we suggest one does is close your vision, move your finger around the menu where ever your finger stops... order that. Oh, and don't forget the vodka. After dinner, just a little ramble to the Red Square to find out the Kremlin is certainly in order. Please do not try to spray-paint your reputation around the Kremlin walls. Somehow the Russian secret service will not agree to this sporting activity.
A young day I'm afraid. Well, I'm not really afraid as days aren't to get scared of. The Russian Mafia is something to get afraid about, but I'll leave that story for one more time. The flight to Mineralyne Vody leaves at 12H00 coming to 14H00. Upon arrival, we load up the gear on the bus and consider the 60 minutes drive-thru with an awesome town called Kislovodsk where we check out our hotel for the evening. Once checked in, we hit the location for supper as well as a vodka or 10. If you aren't during intercourse by 12H00, please revisit the place. Breakfast is served. Now this just isn't tennis. We're here to climb Elbrus remember. You receive your individual breakfast. After loading some?4 vehicles, we take the 3 hour drive through to base camp that is nestled with the base of Elbrus. Why have you think it had been called bases camp? Since the camp houses many golf clubs which use excess base in their music? or perhaps is it as the camp is home the Revlon's constitute production? Nope. Sorry to are truly disappointing with this one. Base camp in this instance is the term for our base for that Elbrus climb. The drive into base camp is both spectacular and nerve racking. The roads are already carved to the mountains leaving vertical drops up to 200m. The tracks only enable one vehicle at a time. It's safe to say, that no person inhibits the driving force at this time in the game. The country side out the following is so remote. The sole reason there'd be anyone on the roads would have been to climb Elbrus. Being at the outset of the growing season, we encountered no one. Even as arrived at camp, we create the tents, of loaded our gear making it for the mess tent for your first taste of mountain food-cabbage soup. Base camp of Elbrus is found at 2400m.
