Why You Shouldn't Smoke?

We reside in a crazy world where criminals are glorified and folks are often jailed for petty crimes. Yet virtually nothing is done concerning the sale of tobacco which is much more deadly than any criminal in the face with the earth.

Tobacco is usually a killer and it also kills without mercy. In the usa cigarette smoking accounts for over 400,000 deaths each year. Tobacco related diseases kill over 276,000 men and 142,000 women yearly. People that smoke regularly shorten their lives by a couple of,250 days.

"A 25-year-old, two pack-a-day smoker of cigarettes has a life expectancy 8.3 years shorter than his non-smoking counterpart. For multiple men smoking less than 10 cigarettes per day, losing a great deal of lifespan is 4.6 years; smoking 10 to 19 cigarettes per day shortens the life, expectancy by 5.5 years; and smoking 20 to 39 cigarettes daily, by 6.two years," said E.G. Hammond in "Lifespan of American Men in terms of their Smoking Habits."

Smoking causes other issues too. Property damage resulting from fires brought on by cigarettes costs the American public $400 million each year. But this amount is small compared to the man-hours lost from smoking.

"The health-care costs of tobacco utilization in this country are staggering. Annually, we spend $23 billion in medical costs and we lose $30 billion because of decrease in working serious amounts of decreased productivity through the outcomes of smoking. Year after year smoking kills more Americans than died in battle in The Second World War and Vietnam combined," as outlined by Dr. David E. Larson, editor-in-chief from the "Mayo Clinic Family Health Book."

"Smoking would be the single largest, preventable cause of premature death and disability within this country. One in six deaths in the United States year after year is assigned to cigarette smoking. The American Lung Association states that smoking kills more Americans each and every year than cocaine/heroin, alcohol abuse, accidents, homicide and suicide combined," Larson added.

How come people smoke despite these grim statistics? Some say smoking enables them to relax and ease tension. Others seen tobacco for an escape from other everyday problems or as a means of dealing with the requirements in their profession. And others state that smoking perks up a full day and prepares them for which lies ahead.
